Jersey QRPers are doing
QRP AFIELD
Sept 18-19
The Jersey QRP Club will be having a club station out in the field for the QRP AFIELD event coming this month on Saturday Sept 18th. There's a couple of neat twists this year:
1) the Delaware Valley Radio Association (DVRA) hamfest is on the following day, Sunday the 19th, and for our field event on Saturday, Dave N2ZHY has arranged for us to be able to use the Boy's Club campground in their lovely picnic grove about 5 miles east of Mercer County Park.
2) And since there's a great bonus point incentive this year for camping out and carrying over the operating of the QRP AFIELD event on Sunday morning, we'll be making our AFIELD adventure an overnight campout one! This way we'll be right there at the hamfest the following morning, with a QRP contesting demo station in progress in the middle of the flea market!
So, N2APB and N2ZHY will be pitchin' tents and antennas in the park there in Mercer County for an all-afternoon and all-night QRP operating adventure! Tony W2GUM will be bringing his much-heralded 30-foot DK9SQ antenna and Gummer Tilt-Over Base to help us in the field. Anyone else able to make it? Let us know (n2apb@amsat.org )
And even if you're not able to staying the night operating with us, come on out for the Saturday afternoon and help us with antennas, help WQ2RP get a few extra Q's, or just hang for a while with us while having some 'dogs on the grill!
We'll gather at 12 noon at the park (see directions below) in order to set up the tents, stations and antennas in time for the start of the QRP AFIELD event.
N2ZHY will try to secure a club screen tent. Dave says: "If it rains there is room under the pavilion. I told them I expected 5 to 10 guys overnight with 3 or 4 tents. I told them we didn't need electric but it will most likely be available overnight and certainly during the fest. There are barracks type bathrooms (who needs a sink that long to wash his hands) but I don't think any shower. Bears and raccoons are optional."
You can see the complete rules and description of the QRP AFIELD event, as sponsored by Dave Benson, NN1G and the QRP-NE Club, at their website: http://www.eichhoff.com/neqrp/
